The Facts
Sponsor Children
Without Legs
Mountain Of Garbage
Fact 1: Millions of families live on less than $1 a day.
Living on only a couple dollars a day...
Rowena Canales is holding one of her nine children. Her family lives in the small shack which is pictured behind her.
Rowena's husband is a farmer. The family of 11 lives on less than $1.60 a day. With very little money, her children's future seem bleak.
Open the doors of opportunity and
give her children hope for a better future.
Fact 2: 1.5 million children live on the streets,
many work or beg to survive.
Often times you will find children begging along the streets of Manila. Many are asking for food so they can fill their empty stomachs.
Many who watch this tend to ignore the kids fearing that giving one food will bring dozens of children at their feet.
These kids have no future... but you can give them hope for one.
Fact 3: More than a third of children drop out of
school by the sixth grade.
Many families are faced with one thing: provide their child with an education or live without basic necessities for the rest of the family.
With most families living on less that $1 a day, this can be a tough decision.
Many children want to continue through school... they just don't have the opportunity.
A Wheelchair For George

From Our Founder:
"I first met George several years ago when I first started Child United. He was one of many children sitting in the back of the first grade class of Mrs. Liwayway.
His teacher told me about him. He was 17 years old at the time and had just started school. His parents had shunned him from school for years but this kid decided he was going to go. So at an age where many of us are getting ready for college, George was starting school for the very first time.
What caught my eye was his persistence. Even with his disability, he continued to run on the stumps of his legs and write from the stumps of his arms. This kid was remarkable.
Ever since that first meeting, I continued to pay him visits every year and provided him with gifts. In the meantime, Casey (my director) and I were looking for ways to get a doctor to provide him with prosthetics.
It wasn't until my relief trip in December that I spoke to his parents and visited their home. They told me they applied to the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD) and were approved to receive a wheelchair but after three years of approvals have not received it.
After hearing this and knowing their desperate need to provide George with mobility, I traveled to Manila and shopped for a wheelchair. Out of my own money, I bought George a sturdy wheelchair that will last him for years to come. I gave it to him on Christmas Day. In the meantime, we will continue to search for a doctor to provide him with prosthetics in the future.
It is amazing to see this kid write. He taught himself how to draw. You can view a sample of his drawing above. What's more amazing is his drive. He won't let anything stop him and for this, I admire him and his actions. I hope my gift will provide him with hope for the future and the thought that someone halfway around the world cares for him."
