About Child United

Child United was started in May 2007 in an effort to help impoverished children in the Philippines receive an education. It is with Child United's hope that educating children will empower the country to end poverty.

In an effort to help tens of thousands of impoverished Filipino children, Child United started taking donations and orders on-line in July 2007. Child United specializes in selling handmade fine Asian jewelry from Thailand and the Philippines. Fifty percent of the proceeds are placed directly into education programs and scholarship funds.

About the Founder

Christine Umayam is a Filipino-American born and raised in the Seattle area. The concept for Child United began during her trip to the Philippines in January 2006. She witnessed extreme poverty first hand that affected her so much she decided to make a life changing decision. Christine chose to leave her sales executive position to pull all her efforts and attention to create Child United.

During her visits overseas, she met many of the children who were taken out of school so they could work to make a few cents a day to help feed their families. Christine envisioned the most effective way to help children is by making it possible for them to stay in school to finish their education.

Christine strongly believes Child United will help end a cycle of poverty for many children, making it possible for them to have a future by giving them the opportunities they would otherwise not have. The funds raised by selling beautiful native Filipino and Thai jewelry will open the doors for the families there.

Christine was most recently a Sales Market Lead/ Senior Account Executive at a real estate marketing firm in Kirkland, WA. Before returning home to the Seattle area, she worked as a television news reporter for numerous stations across the country including: Sacramento, CA, Porland, OR, Madison, WI, and in the Tri-Cities, WA. Christine started her career in news working behind the scenes at several Seattle television news stations.
